Celebrating Seniors Month with Instructor Ellen

Celebrating Seniors Month with Instructor Ellen cover

October is Seniors Month, and at the Aquadome we’re proud to celebrate the older adults who make up such an important part of our community. One of the people supporting them every day is instructor Ellen, whose energy, care and passion for fitness help bring people together through movement.

Ellen says what she enjoys most about her work is simple: “I just love people. I enjoy helping out, connecting with the local community, and finding new ways to teach and communicate. It’s a great way to combine that with my passion for fitness.” She thrives on creating a space where people from all walks of life feel welcome and supported. “It’s really rewarding to see people from different backgrounds come together and help each other grow.”

Supporting seniors has become a meaningful part of Ellen’s role. She describes them as “the foundation of our community” and says she values their perspective. “They’ve worked hard their whole lives, and I want to support their independence. I just really enjoy working with them.”

Ellen’s classes are designed to be inclusive and adaptable. “I always offer options so everyone can take part. I break things down to make the movements achievable, then build from basic to advanced. That way, people can join in at a level that suits them.” This approach makes her sessions accessible and supportive, regardless of experience or ability.

While improving strength and balance is a focus, Ellen believes the social side of her classes is just as important- particularly for older adults. “Once people retire, they can sometimes lose that sense of being part of something. Being in a class brings them back into a community, which is so important for mental health.” She adds, “I try to make classes fun and engaging. When people work together toward a shared goal, it really builds connection.”

Thank you to Ellen and to all of our members for making the Aquadome a space where people feel supported, included, and inspired-this Seniors Month and beyond.
